Don’t Panic.  A young colony of eastern subs will contain about 50,000 members. With all of them feeding night and day
it will take them a year to eat 2 feet of a wooden 2X4.  Many people reading this might say, “Yes, but can there be
multiple colonies?!”  Yes, there can be, especially in damp, wooded areas; but not so much in our new, treeless,
chemically drenched subdivisions

So you think you have termites, what should you do? Well, as far as the law is concerned, don’t panic.  The termite
police aren’t going to come and get you and make you spend thousands of dollars to eliminate the termites.  In the
State of Florida the only thing you are required to have by law, as far as termites are concerned, is an up to date Wood-
Destroying Organism, (WDO), inspection report each time you buy or sell a home in Florida.

The report, (DACS FORM 13645, REV. 02-04), must be filled out by a Certified Pest Control Operator, (CPO), licensed
& insured in the State of Florida in the Category of Wood-Destroying Organisms. The report must clear the structure
of any wood-destroying organism infestation.

Most pest control companies will provide you with a “free” termite inspection if you are going to buy a home or sell
yours.  By law, the pest control company is not required to actually find “live” WDO’s.  All they are required to do is
find “evidence” of wood-destroying organisms, be it a termite wing in a spider web, a pin-sized hole made by an
emerging adult powder post beetle or a small pile of dry wood termite pellets in an attic windowsill.

The reality is if a pest control company finds “evidence of infestation” they are not going to clear the structure unless
they sell you a pest control treatment for the organism(s) involved. Living WDO’S are often hidden deep within the
structure and/or in areas inaccessible for inspection.  As Mr. T would say “I pity the fool” who comes back from his
“free” inspection and tells the boss he could not find anything wrong.

Most of the time after an inspection, the company is going to say you need a termite bond.  So what is a termite bond?
That’s a good one.  My 3 year old nephew, Levi, has a term he uses to describe all of life’s great complications.
Confronted with one of life crossroads and undecided on which way to turn, Levi will say “that’s tricky!”

Termite bonds as written by most pest control companies are indeed “tricky”. First of all, don’t let anyone tell you that
legally you need a ‘termite bond’.  You don’t.  I’ve already told you what you need; a clean, DACS,
THIRTEEN/SIX/FORTY-FIVE.  However, the reality is that 99% of the time you’ll need to get that from a pest control
company and they’ll want to place you under a ‘termite bond’.  A ‘termite bond’ is a promise from the termite company
to you about what they will do concerning termites with certain conditions.
Shown above are our Nature's Way Green Eye Alert Self-Monitoring Termite Stations. For
one small one-time fee we install them, you own them and if you move...you can take them
with you. No more expensive fees because you monitor them yourself.

They are easy, you just glance down, no bending over, no special tools.

If the station's green "eye" begins to drop down, just lift the durable, light weight station
out of the ground, pop out the clear, glass, test tube-like center and you can actually see
the termites! Our green termite stations don't pop up, don't give false alerts, nor contain
pheromones that attract termites. To monitor, you need only to look for a color change, the
green will disappear if termite's attack.

What happens then? Don't Panic. We have inexpensive, safe, treatments for termites that
we guaranty for five years.
What those conditions are and how they are worded is between you and the pest control company, albeit with some very
strong guidance from the State of Florida’s Bureau of Pesticide Enforcement.

The truth is most termite bonds are a tangle of legalese shrouded in fine print. We don’t think all that is necessary.
We give you a good deal and a fair promise.  The type of “termite treatment promise” we offer is called a “limited
warranty”.

The reason it is a “limited warranty” is that according to Section SE .14.105 in the Rules & Regulations of Chapter 482
of the Florida Statutes, the type of treatment we will do is considered a “spot treatment”.  That does not mean it is not
effective or thorough. What it means is we are trying to save our customers money; especially in today’s economy.

If you would like to know more about how we can do a safe, effective, affordable treatment for the prevention of
subterranean termites or control active infestations of subterranean termites; consider our $ave Green, Go Green
Termite Program.

If you think you have an active, infesttion of subterranean termites call us to come out and inspect your property.
We can treat your home or business with the safest and we think most effective termite control product on the
market. This product is registered by both the EPA & the State of Florida. We treat your property using state of the
art equipment in what we think is the most effective new methodology of subterranean termite control.
·        Our program enables homeowners to monitor for termites themselves, at a glance.

·        Monitoring our green stations requires no bending over or lifting, and no special tools or knowledge.

·        Once the homeowner has paid for the installation of the stations they are theirs to keep. Our customer
friendly program totally eliminates expensive monitoring fees.

·        Usually an average home, (less than 3,000 sq. ft.), only needs 8 to 10 in-ground outside stations at a one-time
cost of $25 per station.

·        At the homeowner’s request, Nature’s Way will inspect any station the homeowner suspects may be
infested with termites.*

·        If one of our green stations signals it is being attacked by termites, you will be able to see living termites
in the clear, glass station. Nature’s Way can then eliminate the termite colony.

·        If you currently have an active termite infestation, Nature’s Way can treat your home with the only
green termite product registered by the EPA. This product is odorless and completely safe for people &
pets.

·        Our green home termite treatment is super-effective and only takes a few hours. The treatment price for
an average home, (less than 3,000 sq. ft) is $1,200.00-$1500.00, and we warranty it for 5 years.

·        We are licensed & insured to perform WDO Inspections in the State of Florida.

*Free inspections to natural lawn care customers; ** Free inspections to home pest control customers (at scheduled
service).

Up here in NE Florida the termite species of concern is the eastern subterranean termite,
(Reticulitermes Flavipes).  Starting from scratch, with a king and queen termite, it takes
about 3 years for a colony to mature.  Once the colony reaches maturity it will form the
special reproductive termites that “swarm.”  That’s probably the first time you’re going to
find out you “have termites”.  OMG!!

Don’t Panic.  Let’s put a few things in perspective.  First of all, are they termites or are
they ants?  Ants swarm too, especially the big, red and black Florida Carpenter Ants.
Eastern sub termites swarm once a year, usually in our spring.  It depends on the rainfall
and temperature.  Warm weather and lots of rain and you’ll see them as early as January.
Cold weather and no rain and you might not see them until April, if at all.

Ants swarm year round.  Eastern sub termite swarmers are dark brown with thick waists,
straight antennae and long, clear wings of equal size that stick out way past their bodies.
Ant swarmers have bent, “elbowed” antennae, thin waists and their front wings are bigger
than their back wings and don’t go much past their bodies, if at all.

Okay, they are termites.  Don’t Panic.  A popular misconception is that the minute you
have termites your house is going to fall down.  The reality is that while termites can
severely damage a structure, it takes time.

A worst case infestation scenario for eastern sub termites would be in an old, loblolly pine
cabin in a damp wood in the Deep South.  After let’s say, 20 years, an eastern sub colony
could contain 5 million individuals.  Imagine a lady’s bowling ball eating your house at the
rate of 2 Big Mac-sized chunks of wood a day.
